
PROPOSED AMENDMENT: Separate election of Attorney General A portion of the executive power of the President is permanently delegated as stated in this article. The power to file and prosecute criminal charges under the authority of the United States shall be vested in an Attorney General of the United States and such deputies as the Attorney General chooses by law. Congress may provide by law for senate confirmation of subordinates to the Attorney General, which may delegate the confirmation power to a committee of senators. The Attorney General shall be an attorney eligible to appear in the courts of the United States, chosen by the presidential electors at the same time they vote for president and vice-president, to a term of four years that is coterminous with the term of the president and vice-president. The electors shall cast distinct ballots for the attorney general. If no candidate receives the vote of a majority of the electors, the attorney general shall be selected by the senate, from the two recipients of the greatest number of electoral votes. If the office of Attorney General becomes vacant, then it shall be filled in the same manner as a vacancy in the vice-presidency, pursuant to amendment XXV. The Attorney General shall nominate a qualified deputy, who, in the event of a vacancy in the office of Attorney General, may exercise the duties of the office for up to 120 days while the office is being filled. This article is not intended to limit or affect the power of grand juries as provided for in the Constitution. The Attorney General shall represent the executive branch in noncriminal legal matters as requested by the President. The Attorney General shall not oppose the validity of the duly enacted laws of the United States, nor shall it be considered a violation of her oath to the support the Constitution to support such validity. The Attorney General shall not be positioned in the line of succession to the Presidency.
If the AG wins on the same ticket as the president, they will still be a crony. I don’t see that this solves a problem
